Network Video Monitoring Applications

Security and surveillance is only a small part of the NVM opportunity.  IP monitoring offers a lot more than CCTV.  Sony IPELA products are already being used in these areas

  • Remote Monitoring - instant real time view of what's happening in your business
  • Web sites / Leisure - add live video to your web-site and capture your audience
  • Banking - ATM surveillance and asset protection.  Staff safety and footfall recording
  • Education - security and safety in schools, bring the world into the classroom
  • Healthcare - patient monitoring, teaching and security
  • Large Venue - surveillance, crowd control, incident management
  • Retail - in-store observation, footfall systems, security and stock monitoring
  • Transport - traffic observation and management
  • Industrial - construction sites, production lines, hazardous environments

Dispel The Myths About Network Video Monitoring

1)  It is unproven technology
Wrong.   Over 300,000 IP cameras are deployed worldwide.  Sony cameras are used in several high profile installations worldwide including Munich Airport .
2)  Poor Image Quality
Wrong.  In most cases less than 10% of images from analogue cameras are of high enough quality to be used for evidence in court.  IP cameras are now surpassing the quality of traditional analogue cameras.  The misconception is between low cost web-cams and professional quality network cameras.
3)  Deploying IP Cameras is more expensive than analogue.
Wrong.   Whilst the cost of the network cameras is more than analogue units, the overall cost deployment of an IP based solution is far less.  For IP based installations, the network infrastructure is likely to be in place, whereas analogue installations require dedicated cabling.  Once you add in the costs of multiplexers, matrices, monitors, VCR's and DVR's commonly integrated in analogue systems, IP solutions become far more cost effective and flexible.
4)  IP Installations are not secure
Wrong.  With encryption, firewalls, VPN's and password protection, an IP monitoring installation can be made to the highest security standards.
5)  Networks are unreliable.
Wrong.  Safeguards such as uninterruptible power supplies, secure off site storage and hot-swappable disks ensure that a networked video solution is more reliable than traditional analogue or hybrid installations.  True network video systems bring scalability, intelligence at camera level, remote accessibility and more cost efficient installations.
