Video conferencing telemedicine solution connects South-west hospitals

Video conferencing has been adopted by Bristol Royal Children’s Hospital with the installation of the RADVISION SCOPIA XT1000. The aim is to deliver high level medical expertise to two other south west hospitals allowing for a reduction in travel and disruption for vulnerable patients.

Andy Tometski, a consultant paediatric and foetal cardiologist, said they are always looking to provide higher quality and more efficient patient care and the video conferencing equipment delivers unprecedented diagnostic quality images at thirty frames per second on both streams.

Tometski also stated the high quality on both sides of the video conference, along with a content stream for a live ultrasound scan image, allows him to accurately assess the heart of a foetus. It also allows him to assess patients remotely which reduces the anxiety of the family who would normally have to travel to and from the hospital.

RADVISION video conferencing equipment is expected to be rolled out across selected hospitals in the south west with Swindon and Torbay hospitals having the equipment installed over the next six months.
