The 2012 Olympic Games in London are less than a year away, and although this will be an exciting time for London and the rest of Britain, businesses and workers in London will need to rethink their daily travel plans to avoid being majorly disrupted by the thousands of people expected to engulf the city during the games.
Norman Baker, Transport Minister, is encouraging London workers to use video conferencing and telepresence to communicate during the 2012 Olympic Games. He stated the Games will be a “once in a generation test for our transport system and our adaptability”. The minister has suggested that businesses should allow staff to work remotely if possible and using video conferencing and telepresence is the most effective way to reduce travel whilst still being able to participate in important business meetings.
There is no doubt the 2012 Olympic games will be strain on the transport system in London, but businesses need not be disrupted by the city hosting the prestigious event. Many businesses adopting video conferencing and telepresence solutions in preperation for the event are planning to use the equipment beyond the games in an attempt to reduce their travel expenditure and carbon footprint.
