The Ministry of Defence is planning to adopt video conferencing and reduce its travel and accommodation expenditure among its workforce.
IT Firm, Tableau Software, were able to obtain information regarding the MoD’s travel expenditure through a Freedom of Information request which revealed that between 2008 and 2010 they paid out more than sixty five million pounds on UK accommodation and thirty three million pounds on accommodation outside of the UK.
Recognising this level of expenditure can not continue, the MoD have requested their staff take steps to avoid paying out for accommodation and where possible avoid travel. An MoD representative said they are aiming for their staff to achieve business needs through audio and video conferencing. The representative also added that video conferencing has assisted in putting travel expenditure on a downward trend.
